Reinforcement
We can't imagine to construct any building without the use of reinforcement i.e steel bars, Which provides tensile strength to the structure.
And according to Indian Standard i.e IS 456:2000 which is the code of practice for PLAIN AND REINFORCED CONCRETE also show the types of reinforcement we can use in construction.
Reinforcement already have its own code of practice which are following
📑IS:5525 -1969: Recommendation for detailing of reinforcement in reinforced concrete works.
📑IS:9077 -1979: Code of practice for corrosion protection of steel reinforcement in RB & RCC construction.
But in this blog we (Tecno Construction) tells you according to IS 456:2000
The reinforcement shall be any of the following:
1.Mild steel and medium tensile steel bars conforming to IS 432(Part 1)
2.High strength deformed steel bars conforming to IS 1786
3.Hard-drawn steel wire fabric conforming to IS 1566
4.Structural steel conforming to Grade A of IS 2062
Precautions for Reinforcement:
👉All reinforcement shall be free from loose mill scales, loose rust and coats of paints, oil, mud or any other substances which may destroy or reduce bond.
👉Sand blasting or other treatment is recommended to clean reinforcement.
👉Special precautions like coating of reinforcement may be required for reinforced concrete elements in exceptional cases and for rehabilitation of structures.
👉Specialist literature maybe referred to in such cases.
👉The modulus of elasticity of steel shall be taken as 200kN/mm2.
👉The characteristic yield strength of different steel shall be assumed as the minimum yield stress/0.2 % proof stress specified in the relevant Indian Standard .
